BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) blends indigenous funk, hip-hop, and punk rock from Soweto, South Africa. Initially rehearsing in a shipping container, the seven-piece band now performs at major global festivals like Glastonbury and Roskilde. Their music serves as both a trance and a weapon for political and spiritual liberation. Known for their high-energy live shows, BCUC won the Womex Artist Award in 2023. The band fuses 1970s jazz with contemporary hip-hop and punk, voicing Africa’s struggles and rich traditions. Their music celebrates ancestral spirit, offering a vibrant yet controversial perspective on modern Africa.
